Eric Goldin – Eric Goldin is a Consulting Nuclear Engineer in the Health Physics Division at the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS). He has held various radiation safety positions supporting both worker and public radiation protection programs at SONGS since joining Southern California Edison in 1983. A few years ago, Eric cross-trained in Nuclear Communications and has been active in outreach programs as a SONGS Ambassador for many years. His latest project is working with the local community college on an HP Technician training program. Eric received a BS in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Arizona, an MS in Nuclear Engineering (Health Physics specialty) from Texas A&M University, and a Ph.D. in Biophysics from the University of Texas, Houston. He did four years of post-doctoral work in radiation biology and cancer biology before joining Houston Lighting and Power Company in 1980. Eric has been active in the industry; he served on the ABHP, HPS Board, several NEI groups, the CalRad Forum Board, and an NCRP Scientific Committee. He's a past-president of the San Diego Chapter of the HPS and has taught several classes at San Diego State University. Eric and his wife of 35 years, Ellen, have two wonderful grown children who also live in California. You may find Eric cycling the Pacific Coast Highway on Sunday mornings, spending weekends with his SONGS coworkers hiking and photographing the Grand Canyon, Zion, or Yosemite, or just relaxing at home with good wine and music.
Treasurer
Herb Giorgio - MS in Environmental Health specializing in Radiological Health from the University of Minnesota. Certified by the American Board of Health Physics. Over 30 years experience in a wide variety of Health Physics activities of which twenty-seven involve positions at a nuclear power plant. Power plant positions held have included: Principal Health Physicist, ALARA Coordinator, Radiation Protection Manager and various staff positions.
Mick Truitt - Retired from the US Navy in 1994 where I spent almost 21 years either riding or working on nuclear submarines. I started my own business and went into private consulting from 1994 – 1999. During that time I spent three years in Chalk River, Ontario Canada where I completed the decommissioning and archiving of Canada’s first reactor, ZEEP. This reactor is now on display at the science museum in Ottawa. In 1999 I sold my business and went to work for Eberline where I was a product line director for contamination and gate monitors. In 2003 I went to work for Canberra Industries as the National Sales Manager. In 2007, I became the Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Business Development for Ludlum Measurements Inc. Outside of work I am active with both the local and US Chamber of Commerce. I am on the Board of Directors with the Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Corporate Leadership Advisory Council and National Security Advisory Council on the US Chamber of Commerce. Recently I have been working with Texas State Technical College in reinstituting their radiological technician course and radiation safety program and am on the curriculum advisory council. Besides being an active member of the national Health Physics Society (HPS), I am also a member of the South Texas Chapter of the HPS.
Directors (3 openings)
J. Stewart Bland - J. Stewart Bland is president of Chesapeake Nuclear Services and has over thirty years of experience in health physics and radiation safety. He has eight years of experience with the NRC in radiological assessment, facility licensing, and operational inspection and enforcement. For the past twenty-five years, he has been providing health physics and radiological safety engineering consulting services to industry and government. Mr. Bland was a principal author of a study for NRC on the radiological hazards for products containing low levels of radioactive materials that are exempt from regulatory licensing/control. He has developed regulatory guidance for the NRC in the areas of internal and external radiation dosimetry, radiation dose to the embryo/fetus, and radiological environmental monitoring. He has developed radiological environmental dose modeling, including the NRC’s LADTAP computer code used for assessing liquid pathway doses. Areas of specific expertise include radioactive facility decommissioning planning, characterization and final status surveys; radiological assessments; emergency planning; operational health physics; internal dose modeling; and environmental pathway dose assessment. Mr. Bland has a BS in Physics and an MS in Nuclear Science from Georgia Institute of Technology and is a Certified Health Physicists by the American Board of Health Physicists.
