Domenici Receives HPS Distinguished Public Service Award
The HPS Awards Committee has selected Senator Pete Domenici for the society's first Distinguished Public Service Award. The RGCHPS executive council was honored to submit a letter supporting the nomination. The award will be presented at a special ceremony on April 15th at 5:30 pm in Washington, DC, at a location yet to be determined. Senator Domenici was nominated by Ray Guilmette, Keith Dinger, Ralph Andersen, John Frazier, Raymond Johnson, Ruth McBurney, and Kevin Nelson. In the nomination, the Senator was recognized for his outstanding contribution to the profession of health physics while in public service.
The members of the Rio Grande Chapter and indeed the entire state of New Mexico, are proud that Senator Domenici represented his constituency so well. We have all been the beneficiaries of his tireless fight for funding of the defense and energy projects at Sandia National Laboratories, Los Alamos National Laboratory, White Sands Missile Range, and in the development of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant and the National Enrichment Facility. The RGCHPS we conveys a profound note of appreciation to the Senator, that by whatever means would be inadequate but nevertheless appropriate.
