The TALSO [Triangle Area Laser Safety Officers] group met at 2:30 PM October 14 at GSK's Building 5;  thanks to Dan Sullivan and GlaxoSmithKline for hosting this event.

Meeting Summary:

I. Reviewed notes from July 29 Meeting

II. Review of LIA Laser Safety Officer Course by recent attendee Bill Fitzgerald
- Noted very diverse group of attendees from R&D, industry & academia
- Excellent presentations by Sliney & Hitchcock
- Good course; recommended for all LSOs
NOTE: Gary Beasley mentioned excellent training materials on the CORD site; see
http://www.cordonline.net/laserapplets/

III. Round Table Discussion: LANL laser eye injury
- All agreed this sort of thing could happen at one of our facilities; e.g. note from Hitchcock on recent injury at Argonne NL
- Noted puzzling inconsistencies in reports; e.g. laser could not have operated without trigger, etc.
- Bill Fitzgerald said attendees at recent LIA course who were more familiar with the case suggested there was more to the story than what was released in the report

IV. Schedule next meeting
- RESOLVED: Allan Nowak has volunteered to host the next meeting at Dupont's facility; 2:30 PM on Thursday, February 10, 2005.  Thanks Allan!

Thank you again for your interest in laser safety.  See you February 10!
