At Fermi National Accelerator Lab (Fermilab), the Neutrinos at the Main Injector (NuMI) Project took beneficial occupancy of the target hall in May 2003. Since then, different installation crews have been working very hard installing the technical components. All major magnets are now installed in the NuMI beam extraction region in the main injector, carrier tunnel, and pretarget areas. The installation of the target pile shield blocks in the target pit is complete and the installation of the target pile air-block, part of the pile air-cooling system, is near completion.

Service buildings and outfitting contracts for the MINOS detector have finished on schedule. On March 10, 2004, the NuMI project took beneficial occupancy. Installation of the equipment and the detector has started. To see some nice pictures of the installation in progress, check the NuMI construction web site.

The NuMI Project and the contractors' project management teams have been meeting weekly to discuss work planning issues; hazard analysis review; training issues; general environment, safety, and health (ES&H) program issues; and day-to-day scheduling issues. Work on finalizing the shielding assessment and safety assessment document is on schedule. The shielding assessment will be submitted to the Accelerator Division for review within the next two months.
