March 2008, Speaker: Dale Boyce

IsoRay Medical™ was founded in Richland, Washington in 1998 to develop, manufacture and market isotopes for use in the medical treatment of various malignant diseases. Company founders included recognized experts in the medical isotope field, including Lane A. Bray, who developed the patented process for economically separating and purifying Cesium-131.  Cesium-131 was first used in October of 2004 at the University of Washington Medical Center for the treatment of prostate, breast, liver, brain, head and neck cancers and other malignant disease.

January 2008, Speaker: Antone L. Brooks, Professor Washington State University Tri-Cities
"Cellular and Molecular Effects of Low Dose Radiation "

This presentation discussed the recent cell/molecular data and provided an up to date review of the biological research conducted in the low dose region (below 0.10 Gy or 10 rads).  Also discussed how these data can be used to understand the scientific basis for current radiation standards. Finally, the presentation discussed the public perception that low doses of radiation represent a serious health risk. This perception is central to the generation of the observed radio-phobia.

(Professional Enrichment Program Lecture)  The Professional Enrichment course ran two hours and is eligible for 4 Continuing Education Credits.

November 2007 presented by Ron Kathren
